Sustainability Champion

We represent our clients' interests and ensure that their sustainability agenda and best practices are driven right through from concept and design development to construction and operation of the facility.

By establishing objectives and targets early and embedding them into the project deliverables, cost and program can be better controlled and greater sustainability achieved. For example, if the client desires to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating, the design must be developed from the outset to include features that count towards this rating. Adding BREEAM requirements at a later date increases costs, reduces effectiveness and can cause friction amongst the design and construction team.

We assist in the creation of the client’s schedule of requirements and the design and construction briefs, reviewing bids and attending tender interviews to assess the environmental competence and suitability of consultants, contractors and material suppliers. We provide expert advice on sustainable design, environmentally and ethically sound materials and sustainable technologies. We audit the supply-chain and carry out training for members of the delivery team to ensure a good level of understanding of environmental principles and the project’s targets.

Our registered auditors monitor construction activity to ensure best practices are applied in areas including energy consumption, waste management, sustainable procurement, pollution prevention, noise and community relations. As the project progresses, we support the team to achieve their targets, reporting back to the client on progress.

In addition, we work with the client to develop a project public relations strategy including submitting entries for relevant awards schemes, preparing for and attending external visits and audits, for example by investors, media, community groups or awards judging panels.
