HeadLine is a leadership training programme which has been delivered to over 250 primary schools in England. Through a 7 day programme (non-consecutive days) school leaders hone skills in identifying key school improvement issues, exploring problems and possible solutions whilst working with ‘live’ case study materials with other schools. They then apply these skills to their own schools. Crucially, theory is put into practice through school-based work. The programme combines face-to-face sessions and support from a tutor in school to provide the most targeted and effective support possible for senior management teams.

HeadLine helps bring out essential leadership skills and gives school leaders the ability to:

• See their school through the eyes of an inspector
• Make sense of performance data and use it to evaluate school effectiveness
• Scrutinise teaching and learning and use monitoring in a focused and effective way
• Develop action plans which drive improvements in teaching and learning
• Use the self-evaluation form (SEF) to target areas for concern

The programme is designed for headteachers and senior leaders but will benefit anyone with an interest in school improvement

Understanding your school’s performance

DAY 3:

Developing self-evaluation skills

DAY 4:

Tutor’s critical friend visit to school

DAY 5 & 6:

Participants’ visits to partner schools

DAY 7:

Report back on progress and action planning
