We use our Environmental Management System, which is accredited to BS EN ISO14001:2004, to manage the environmental aspects of our business. Our objectives and targets currently include energy, waste, travel, procurement and ICT. We measure our success in this area through the ongoing delivery of our environmental objectives and targets, and report separately on our environmental performance.
Appleyards has registered its commitment to 10:10. The largest collective effort of companies and individuals to tackle climate change in the UK. By joining 10:10, we are aiming to reduce our carbon emissions by 10% in 2010, starting April 1st.
For further details of our environmental commitment, view our Environmental Policy.
Example of what we do
On 5th June for World Environment Day, Appleyards had a Walk to Work Day. The Sevenoaks office took the 7 flights of stairs up and down for the entire day. We also put posters up throughout the communal areas of the building and encouraged other companies to get involved too.
Appleyards is using a green 100% renewable energy provider at each of our offices, and for every £1 we spend, this is invested into building new sources of green electricity.
Example of what we do for our clients
For project ZEBRA at Lion House, Alnwick, Appleyards project managed the delivery of the first office and government building to receive an A+ rated Energy Performance Certificate, and the first UK office building with the potential to be carbon neutral in operation. Among various other awards and accolades, it received the highest BREEAM Score in the Offices Category at the BRE Awards 2008.
