Appleyards were commissioned to produce a two part feasibility study to analyse the implications of transferring academic operations from their Maidstone campus to their other Kent Campuses.

The first stage of this project involved assessing all work done by the University to this point and assessing the scope of works needed to ensure a satisfactory outcome, an interim report was published and approval given to proceed with the next (more detailed) stage of the study.

The second stage involved a detailed space planning exercise based on the proposed curriculum models produced by the University. Cost Analysis was carried out for three potential scenarios along with detailed construction programme planning.  The impact on human resources and the quality of delivery at each of the proposed sites was studied and integrated in to the study. Additionally detailed analysis of the potential markets for any proposed changes in provision at any of the university’s site were produced in partnership with the university.  Once collated all the information was presented to the Governing board of the University for Consideration.

The study enabled the university to effectively plan for the future of all of their sites within Kent.

Challenges/Achievements

• Significant time pressure meant that Appleyards were able to exceed expectations while demonstrating their excellent time management and planning skills.
• Through the study Appleyards were able to suggest scenarios which may not have been accessible to the University prior to their intervention.
• Appleyards set up a project board and coordinated a large number of work streams Appleyards were able to amalgamate and interpret the pertinent information to produce the report to the University’s satisfaction.
• The nature of the information required enabled members of three departments to be involved with the project, highlighting Appleyards diversity in service deliver including cost consultancy, project management and educations services.
