Construction of a new school complex including sports hall and associated landscaping works in Rossington, South Yorkshire. School building area is 8,500m2 across 2 storeys. The project provides a 900-place secondary school for 11 to 18 year old students.

The school provides facilities including:

• Teaching spaces arranged to create departmental hubs.
• Shared facilities such as Hall/Theatre for 360 seated pupils (180 for exams) and dining room for 200 - 300 seated pupils (which can be opened up into one space suitable for 900 seated pupils), library and ICT areas.
• 6th Form Centre and vocational courses.
• Sports and leisure facilities including multi-use sports hall, dance studio, fitness suite, lounge/cafe and outdoor pitches.

Addressing Key Challenges

• Works in an occupied site. The existing school remained in use throughout all stages of the project - it was essential therefore to ensure safety of students and staff during the construction stage. This involved careful planning of phases, segregation from construction and identification of ‘protected’ routes to the school from the Highway.
• Communication. Due to the relatively long construction programme and the fact that there would be 2 new intakes of Year 7 pupils during the project, our CDMC was heavily involved to see that information was made available and distributed to all relevant parties and in an appropriate format.
• Change control. Certain elements of the design were amended at a relatively late stage and our CDMC contributed to the change process to see that there was no compromise to health and safety.
