Nishkam School is the first publicly funded, Sikh ethos, multi-faith primary school in the Midlands. In the longer term the proposers aim to open a new secondary centre to create an all through school for children aged 3-16.

Appleyards worked intensively with the Nishkam Education Trust, providing project management and education support and challenge to help the Trust achieve their objectives.  As well as supporting the development of the school’s Business Case we helped run an extensive consultation process amongst a wide stakeholder audience. We supported the appointment of key staff, including the Principal; undertook the development of the admissions process to ensure the ethos of the school is met; produced financial models to ensure the school is sustainable; and set up the Trust and governance model.
 

Nishkam Free School opened with a full intake of primary pupils in September 2011. The occasion was marked by a visit from Schools Minister, Lord Hill.

The Trust intends to open the secondary phase in September 2012.
