In 2006, the DCSF reduced their carbon footprint by 50% in London following the success of the ‘New Ways of Working’ pilot at the Sanctuary Buildings in Great Smith Street.

This project significantly improves sustainability performance in the new Darlington HQ so that SOGE targets for 2011 are met.

Appleyards knowledge of the BREEAM criteria and our close involvement with its development gave the DCSF unique access to experience of the BREEAM processes and how practically to achieve a sustainable estate.

Our Sustainability Champion service also assists the project design and construction teams in applying sustainable development principles in their work. Together with the team, options for meeting the objectives are reviewed and feasibility studies are carried out to identify the best technologies for achieving the goals set out in the Charter.
