Addressing Key Challenges

• Works in an occupied site. The existing school was to remain in use throughout all stages of the project as it was not possible to provide education for the students elsewhere.  This involved careful planning of phases, segregation from construction and identification of ‘protected’ routes to the school from the Highway.
• We identified that by positioning the new building in another part of the school campus and by innovative design and careful negotiations with the local planning authority, the school were able to continue using the existing building whilst the new accommodation was being built.  This shortened the programme and saved considerable temporary accommodation costs.
• We devised a strategy whereby the considerable volume of excavated material was used to level an area of the school’s playing field previously unusable, thus not only avoiding the cost of removal from site but also providing an additional two full size football pitches.
• We managed the programme/phasing so that the existing buildings could still be used by the school. This allowed the contractor to commence the demolition of the existing building and finalise the landscaping and completion of the overall project once the new building was operational.
